A private diary for all your years
Icarus is a free, open-source diary app. Lock it with a password, keep every entry on your own device, and return to any day in an instant.
For Windows, macOS and Linux, or right in your browser.
Why Icarus
-
Locked with your password
Entries and drafts are encrypted on your device. Without your password, no one else can read them.
-
Nothing leaves your device
No account, no cloud, no tracking. Your diary lives in a folder you choose, or in your browser.
-
Years in an instant
Move through decades of entries and search everything you've written, with no waiting.
-
A file that outlasts any app
Everything is saved as a standard .ics calendar file. Import your old diary, export it whenever you want.
Free software, in the open
Icarus is open source under the GNU General Public License v3. Anyone can read the code to check how a diary is handled, build it themselves, or help make it better.
Questions
Is Icarus free?
Yes. Icarus is free and open source under the GNU GPL v3. There are no accounts, ads or subscriptions.
Where is my diary stored?
Only on your device. The desktop app saves it in a folder you choose, and the web app keeps it in your browser's storage. Icarus has no servers that receive or store diaries.
What happens if I forget my password?
Use the recovery key you saved when you set your password. Without the password or the recovery key, no one can open the diary.
Can I bring the diary I already have?
Yes. Import any .ics file and each entry appears on its day. You can export your diary as .ics at any time.
